James "Jim" Walker
(October 23, 1932 - January 4, 2014)
Mr. James Robert “Jim” Walker, age 81, of Gay, passed away January 4, 2014 at Brightmoor Hospice in Griffin. He was born in Atlanta to the late John Walker and Nell Blalock Walker. He was a proud veteran of the United States Air Force. He worked 20 years for IBM, retiring as Regional Manager. He was a faithful member of the Church of Joy in Williamson, served on the Board of Directors for the Meriwether County Hospital for 27 years, and was a Real Estate Broker. Jim was the owner of Applegay Farm in Gay, GA, was an avid baseball fan and enjoyed golfing. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sons, Michael Scott Walker and Mark Thomas Walker; and sister, Beth Walker Carroll.
He is survived by his wife: Faye Whitmire Walker; son: Kevin Jay Walker of Taylors, SC; daughter: Abbie Walker Killian, husband, Luther Killian of Chattanooga, TN; granddaughters: Christine Walker Pierce, MD, husband, James Wallace Pierce IV of Jackson, MS, Amy Killian Padilla, husband, Benny A. Padilla of Washington, DC, and Emily Ann Killian of Sacramento, CA; grandsons: James Michael Walker, U.S. Marines, Matthew L. Killian of Winter Park, FL and Michael Thomas Walker of Taylors, SC; sisters: Jonel Walker Turner of Molena and Martha Walker Boswell, husband, Phillip D. Boswell of Concord; numerous nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held on Monday, January 6, at 1 p.m., at the Church of Joy in Williamson with Pastor Ron Laney officiating. Friends may visit the family on Monday, from 12-1 p.m. at the church. A private family burial will be held prior to the service in the Crouch Cemetery in Gay. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to The Church of Joy, P.O. Box 41, Williamson, GA 30292. Moody-Daniel Funeral Home and Cremation Services in Zebulon is in charge of arrangements.
